How to find the Dumbbell Nebula

The Summer Triangle is a beautiful part of the night sky that contains many nice astronomical features to view on a warm summers night. One of the jewels of the Summer Triangle is the Dumbbell Nebula.

A planetary nebula is a type of emission nebula consisting of an expanding, glowing shell of ionized gas ejected from red giant stars late in their lives and the Dumbbell Nebula located in the summer triangle is one of the best planetary nebula visible to the amateur astronomer in the northern hemisphere.

What equipment do you need to see the Dumbbell Nebula?

You will need medium power magnification to bring out the Dumbbell Nebula, unfortunately, this rules out binoculars.
